The 2023 Summer Music Program will be a series of one week "boot camps" for several different groups! Camps will be for Band, Strings, Choir, and Drama.
Interested students must register by May 26th using the paper form or the online form (below). Registration is free of charge, but students must be enrolled students in the West Mifflin Area School District.
*Instrumental students must have completed at least one year of instruction on their instrument.
1. BAND BOOT CAMP* is June 5 - 9 from 8:45 - 11:45 AM at the Middle School
Beginner band students will use memorization techniques to master knowledge of notes/rhythms
Students will also explore the use of breathing exercises, ear-training, and Froseth-Gordon note and rhythm reading techniques to help learn well-known songs.
More experienced band students will explore Popular music and movie themes while learning how scales, patterns, and fundamental techniques make music easier to read
Best for students finishing grades 5 – 11
High School students are encouraged to assist.
2. DRAMA BOOT CAMP is June 12 - 16 from 8:45 - 11:45 AM at the High School
Students will learn the basis of creating and becoming a character through pantomime, improvisation, and well know dramatic works.
Best for students finishing grades 7 – 11
3. STRING BOOT CAMP* is June 19 - 23 from 8:45 - 11:45 AM at the Middle School
String students will use extended techniques to play well-known songs
Best for students finishing grades 4 – 9
High School students entering 11th/12th grade are encouraged to assist.
4. CHOIR BOOT CAMP is June 19 - 23 from 8:45 - 11:45 AM at the High School
Choir students will explore vocal music through the use of sight-singing, solfege, and ear-training in order to learn how to read and harmonize vocal music.

High School students entering 11th/12th grade are encouraged to assist.
